With amarok, no matter what SQL setup I use, it slows down my computer and locks up all the time. There's no doubt it's the better software, it just doesn't work as smoothly.

A lot of the lag in Amarok is due to database issues. Try Amarok again, but use SQLite, or even better, MySQL for your database needs. The program becomes snappy once again! Make sure you cleared out your old config files, and Google anywhere on how to set up a MySQL db for Amarok.

I had the same issues you did, and I'm glad someone told me about the fix, because Amarok really is the best Multimedia/Library player out there!

Maybe you can write about this in your next posting... :)

AbiWord is an excellent word processor, and I definitely agree to the light weight. The problem is that all my light weight writing goes into Tomboy. AbiWord is definitely worth check out if you are new to the scene.

Amarok is left out on purpose due to having an almost permanent lag of 1 to 2 min in the playlist. I loved amarok, until it started crashing on me. And, well, Exaile is very non-intrusive, its gnome friendly.
