“It’s a Jungle Out There”
Lyrics by Randy Newman

It’s a jungle out there
Disorder and confusion everywhere
No one seems to care
Well I do
Hey who’s in charge here?

It’s a jungle out there
Poison in the very air we breathe
Do you know what’s in the water that you drink?
Well I do, and it’s amazing

People think I’m crazy
’cause I worry all the time
If you paid attention
You’d be worried too
You better pay attention
Or this world we love so much
Might just kill you

I could be wrong now
but I don’t think so
‘Cause it’s a jungle out there
It’s a jungle out there.

—

Wonderful.

For the past 5 or 6 years, I’ve been absolutely terrible about writing in my notebooks. I wrote here, and many other places, but I never really set ink to paper anymore.

This past year, on the other hand, things have changed. I’ve almost completed my 3rd 240 notebook! Here is a list of my 4 recent notebooks, the titles, and the dates which they contain. Just for shits and giggles.

November 9, 2010 – June 6, 2011
- Suicide for Beginners – Seven months to fill.

June 7, 2011 – September 4, 2011
- Existential Therapy – Taking only slightly less than three months to fill.

September 4, 2011 – Unknown(but soon)
- Rhapsody – One month in. Doubt it will contain another week or so before its full.

Unknown – Unknown
- This Wine – This will be my next notebook. I expect to be starting it by the second week of November at the latest.

Each notebook is the same brand and size. CR Gibson Markings 240 ruled pages, 8″ x 5″

A warrior grows complacent in his pleasures. Forgetting fast, his fight, when he goes unchallenged. Is he not enough of a man to challenge for honor? Is he too much of a man, for other men to brave the challenge? Whether either is true, neither is right. The warrior knows this, but in silence, he grows continuously more subdued. To be, a warrior must know song; a warrior must know battle. It is not enough to enjoy music, or fighting, a warrior must join in with the chorus, and join in the fight!

But love can soften and break a warrior. It’s so easy to give in to those pleasures. A warrior can love, without giving up what he is, but it is a hard fight, and only the strongest remain so, under the arms of a beautiful woman.

A warrior must fight! A warrior must sing! A warrior must love, but with ferocity! A warrior must never forget from wince he came, or to where his sword is pledged, even in the sovereign of his own abode.

Jack
