Books, books, books. I’m mad for reading. I spend untold amounts of time scraping through my library, the local library, and the web for sources of inspiration, or just a good read that can help me get out of myself for a while.

Sometimes it is important, as a writer, to lose yourself in a good book. I like to pick up things that aren’t really my style, to give a fresh perspective on what I write. I spend a lot of time waxing philosophic on my blog, and that generally comes from what I read.

I’ve been pulling my way through the works of Hunter S. Thompson these past few weeks. Fear and Loathing: on The Campaign Trail ‘72 has not only been an excellent read, but it’s made me feel closer to the elections this year. Hunter could always dig himself into any situation, completely engulfing his personality with his subject. I respect that a lot, and I think that if more writers really allowed themselves to be a little crazy, or heroic, or depressed, or manic, they would be able to make their characters more believable. Hunter knew this.

Write yourself into a story. Let it take over all that is you. See what happens.

As a journalist and self purported religious scholar, it is time I made a stand on this. Take this however you like. I love writing and I love religious freedom. You are breeding intolerance and hate, and chopping all kinds of freedoms down. When a man or a group messes with freedoms, it cannot be allowed. We have here established Rights, as everyman does. These tell us our freedoms. One of those is Speech. In fact, the other 9 don’t even count if we don’t get free speech. Think about that. Also instead of litigating, try fucking talking to people. You think the Pope sues everyone that ever says anything bad about Catholicism? No. You have no right by United States law, other than those 10 as people. Tell us why were are wrong. Show us the ‘gift’ of your ‘religion.’

People have already said that by stating the above, I have shot myself in the face. Prove them wrong. Give me a real answer.

I traditionally vote democrat. I think many “democrats” could get behind Ron Paul’s idea of “Constitutionalists.”

EDIT – 1.07.08 – Update – Ron Paul lost the last primary to Mike Huckabee. Who is for some reason wanting to follow my twitter…. Rally up when your state comes about in these primaries!)

Boots Roots – The One Man Band

Born Robert Montgomery in Miami, Florida on January 14th,1935. Boot Roots performed many years in Miami and traveled extensively performing the Blues with many bands. While traveling through Chattanooga, TN, doing gigs, he thought it would be a great location to “Retire.” Since “retiring” 30 years ago in Chattanooga, he has entertained thousands of local residents and tourists passing through town. One can find Boots on the street corner near the Chattanooga aquarium on most fine Spring, Summer, and Fall days and on the warmer days of Winter. Boots has five grown children in the Miami area and one “hook up” of 40 years.

Boots Roots influences include the greats of Wes Montgomery, Alex Stevens, WC Baker, and Leon Demon. Listening to his music you will find it is a cross between Buddy Guy and Muddy Waters.
