I am trying to show water, but water will not come off my shower head, even though I try hard, and even though I use a pipe wrench. I am sure that I am using the proper tool. Can you please give me some pointers on how to use a pipe wrench, to get cold water out of my shower head? I have checked multiple plumbing stores, and am unable to find any helpful hints or tips.
A Pipe Wrench and Other Items
Pipe wrenches are the item you need to loosen and tighten pipes. You can purchase a wide range of models, but it is better to get a quality tool. You can use it for years. Using a quality tool makes sure it will perform well.
Using a quality tool is easier said than done. If the handle is bad, or if the tool is too expensive, it is not worth the price. Check the tool for rust or corrosion. A good tool will have a chrome finish. Chrome will not rust. If the tool is old, then the metal is chipped or has a brownish cast, which will damage the tool.
When purchasing a pipe wrench, pick one that is heavy, but with a good rubber grip. You do not want the handle to be too light. The grip is important, but so is the size of the wrench. Make sure the wrench is large enough to fit between the pipes. Make sure the wrench is long enough to reach the valve seat and the pipe. Some tools are too short and will not reach the valve seat. Using a long tool is recommended.
A decent tool should have one-way valve, so it will clear both directions of the pipe. To remove the tool, simply push it in the opposite direction. The tool should not rattle or shake.
When you take out a tool, it should not feel soft on your fingers. Some tools are too hard and may leave marks on your fingers. If you do have to remove a tool, make sure it is a good quality tool that does not feel soft on your fingers.
When you install a tool, check to see if it is well balanced. You do not want the tool to fall over when you install it. A quality tool should not wobble when you install it.
With a quality plumbing tool, you should be able to reach the valve seat and the pipe threads without difficulty. You can feel the threads, but not the valve seat. A good tool has one-piece construction. A quality tool has good grip.
When installing a tool, use a cloth to protect the edges of the pipe. It is not required, but using a cloth on the pipe edges may protect them from corrosion.
When you take out a plumbing tool, put a cleaning cloth on the edges. This helps to prevent rust and corrosion. A quality tool should not rust.
You do not have to do all the plumbing repair work, but it is recommended that you use a plumbing tool. When you do, you will be able to see the threads and the valve seat, where any hardware may get stuck.
With a plumbing tool, you will be able to loosen bolts without having to remove the handle. The valve seat should not get dirty.
A plumbing tool comes with an Allen wrench. An Allen wrench will remove bolts without having to remove the handle. You can tighten the bolts with the Allen wrench and also loosen the bolts using the wrench.
With a plumbing tool, you will be able to tighten PVC fittings. A quality plumbing tool will have the ability to tighten 14- and 12-inch PVC fittings.
It is best to use a steel-plated threaded fitting to tighten the fitting. Steel-plated fittings will not rust and are corrosion resistant. Before you tighten the fitting, use a rag to wipe the head of the fitting. The fitting head has a coating that protects it from corrosion. If the head of the fitting has an orange stain, that is a good indication that the head is starting to corrode. This is an easy task.
When using a steel-plated fitting, the rag should be wiped from the head to the base of the fitting. If there is still a rag from the head, the head may be rusty.
If you do not have a steel-plated fitting, you will need to use a rubber cup-type head. For this, put a rag on the head, flush it out, and put the head over the fitting. Be careful not to damage the threads. Use the torque wrench to tighten the fitting. As you tighten the fitting, use a wrench to tighten the rubber cup head. Do not over tighten the fitting.
When you use a steel-plated head, you can also tighten it by clamping the nut around the head. Then tighten the nut. If the nut breaks or the fitting is loose, you will have to remove the nut and clean the threading. Remove the nuts, clean the threads and reinstall.
Before you remove the faucet, wipe the threads with a rag. There are threads inside of the faucet. Be careful not to scratch the finish on the faucet. Be sure to turn the faucet handle so that it will be facing up when you reassemble the faucet.
Before you reassemble the faucet, you will need to set the seat. Adjust the seat by pushing the seat away from the faucet handle. Now you can set the faucet back. Turn the handle so that it will be facing up.
Once you set the faucet back, you can adjust the height. To adjust the height, you will use the leveling screw. You can set the leveling screw with the head on the side. Take a set of pliers and tighten the setscrew. Now it will be easier to set the faucet back.
If the faucet leaks, you will need to clean the faucet. For the most part, it is as easy as it sounds. Just clean the threads. Then put the entire faucet back together. As easy as it sounds. You can clean the threads by wiping the threads with a rag and then using a pair of needle nose pliers. If it leaks and there is any scratch on the seat, you can put the entire faucet back together. However, If you start hearing noises from the faucet, you will need to replace the fa Rue and seat.
